MDOT to open new ramp connecting Ambassador Bridge to I-75

Contact:  Brenda V. Peek, MDOT Office of Communications, 248-361-6290
Agency: Transportation

July 9, 2009 -- The Michigan Department of Transportation (MDOT) has good news for motorists who cross the Ambassador Bridge from Canada to the United States. Last week MDOT opened a newly reconstructed section of I-75. Later today, MDOT plans to open a new ramp that will move automobiles entering the United States from the bridge plaza directly onto I-75.

The ramp, scheduled to open during the late afternoon hours of Thursday, July 9, is part of MDOT's I-75 Gateway Project, a $230-million infrastructure project designed to improve efficiency at the Detroit-Windsor border and remove commercial traffic from local streets.

While there will eventually be ramps to accommodate those traveling from the United States to Canada, the ramp that will open today is for automobiles leaving Canada to enter the United States only. MDOT advises motorists traveling from the United States to Canada to continue to follow posted detours.

Construction of the Gateway Project is continuing. For up-to-date information on the Gateway Project, visit the project Web site at www.michigan.gov/gateway.
