July 10, 2008 -- The Michigan Department of Transportation (MDOT) will be reconstructing approximately one mile of M-33 in Oscoda County, from Popps Road to Cherry Creek Road, beginning Monday, July 14. The $1 million project includes widening for a center left-turn lane, new curb and gutter, drainage improvements, and asphalt surfacing.
Weather permitting, work is expected to be completed by early October. This project will be constructed one side at a time. Initially, crews will temporarily widen the road and maintain traffic with flag control. Once the widening is completed, traffic will be shifted, with one lane available in each direction. The new left-turn lane will enhance safety along the corridor.
Motorists are urged to watch for traffic changes and drive with caution through the work zone.
