Agency: Transportation

July 2, 2008 -- Beginning Thursday, July 3, the Michigan Department of Transportation (MDOT) construction project on M-11 (28th Street), from US-131 to Division Avenue in Wyoming, will move into the final stages.

One lane of traffic will be maintained in each direction on the newly constructed eastbound lanes, as westbound lanes are reconstructed. Between Buchanan and Division avenues, a center turn lane will be maintained.

"We have a very aggressive schedule for this project in order to get the work done and get out of the way, so businesses experience minimal impacts," said Tom Tellier, delivery engineer, MDOT Grand Rapids Transportation Service Center. "So far the weather has cooperated and we've been able to stay on a tight timeline."

The $2.8 million roadway and intersection improvement project is scheduled to be completed by early August.

The intersections at Buchanan and Division avenues are being reconstructed and widened, including traffic signal upgrades. The roadway between US-131 and Division Avenue also is being completely reconstructed, including drainage, curb and gutter improvements.

To promote traffic flow, the city of Wyoming has designated temporary truck routes along Buchanan Avenue, from 36th Street to 28th Street, and along 32nd Street from Division Avenue to Buchanan Avenue.
