MDOT's Employee Memorial

The Michigan Department of Transportation's Employee Memorial is a permanent tribute to highway workers all over Michigan who lost their lives building our transportation systems. The memorial is located at the Clare Welcome Center on US-127 in Clare County.

Dedicated May, 1994, the memorial was developed and paid for by both current and retired MDOT employees to honor and recognize those very special people. 

Each of the seven figures is a representation of work activities conducted by MDOT employees. The figures are constructed from salvaged materials from highway jobs. The memorial provides an opportunity to educate the public about the human cost of building and maintaining Michigan's transportation system.
