Urbanized Area Formula Program (Section 5307)

Formula grant program for urbanized areas (over 50,000 population) providing capital, operating (for agencies under 200,000 population), and planning assistance for mass transportation. Funds are apportioned to urbanized areas utilizing a formula based on population, population density, and other factors associated with transit service and ridership. It provides funding for capital and planning at 80 percent and for operating at up to 50 percent.
