Information about the Advanced Placement (AP) Test Fee Reduction GrantFor the past 11 years the Michigan Department of Education (MDE) has received a federal AP Test Fee Reduction Grant. This grant has paid for AP tests, International Baccalaureate (IB) tests, and registration fees for low income students.
Grant applications have typically been available in November with the deadline for applying being in mid-December. This year, due to budget issues at the federal level, funding for the AP Test Fee Reduction Grant has been held up at the congressional level, and as a result the MDE has not received the grant award amount for the 2013-2014 school year. Further, we may not know the award information until August 2013.
Given the lack of available information at this time and the grant award amount from last year, it is likely that students will be required to share the costs of the testing. Our guidance is to anticipate a $20.00 fee per test/per student. The MDE will continue to work closely with the U.S. Department of Education to secure funding and disseminate information to the field as quickly as it becomes available.
