Essential Elements Crosswalks
The following documents are crosswalks, indicating the links between the general content standards in ELA and Mathematics and the draft Essential Elements, which are proposed to serve as Michigan’s alternate content standards in ELA and Mathematics (replacing the Extended Grade Level Content Expectations and Extended High School Content Expectations in ELA and Mathematics). A period of public comment will take place from mid-August 2015 through September 2015.

Assist educators in understanding the links between the general assessment content standards and the Essential Elements.
Introduce the Michigan Range of Complexity, which outlines how the skills associated with each target Essential Element (that will be measured as “state assessable”) is drafted to be assessed for the three levels of MI-Access (Functional Independence, Supported Independence, Participation).
Provide educators with the full scope of the Essential Elements and Range of Complexity for both long term planning and to provide a resource in planning for instruction this fall.
