Michigan's Blue Ribbon Exemplary Schools Program Discontinued

Due to state budget deficits, the Michigan Department of Education announces the termination of the Blue Ribbon Exemplary Schools Program.  The current economic concerns in the state and across the nation have forced difficult decisions.  In light of no available staff and revenue, the Department of Education no longer can continue to support the program.  It is a real distinction to be named a Blue Ribbon Exemplary School and the program deserves staff and resources dedicated to working with the advisory committee and schools to assure the integrity and quality of the program. 

Those schools selected for the honor for 2008-09 are:

1.         Jackman Road Elementary School - Temperance, MI

2.         Merritt Elementary School - Niles, MI

3 .         Robbie Hall Parker Elementary School - Clinton Township , MI

4.         Kenbrook Elementary School - Farmington Hills, MI

5.         Webber Elementary School - Lake Orion, MI

6.         Atwood Elementary School - Macomb, MI

7.         Lakeville Elementary School - Oxford, MI

8.         Leonard Elementary School - Leonard, MI

9.         Meadow Ridge Elementary School - Rockford, MI

10.       Hamilton-Parsons Elementary School - Leonard, MI

11.       Norman B. Hevel Elementary School - Washington, MI

12.       Soo Township Elementary School - Sault Ste. Marie, MI

13.       McIntyre Elementary School - Southfield, MI

14.       Bruce Collins Elementary School - Sterling Heights, MI

15.       Richard J. Duncan Elementary School - Shelby Township, MI

16.       Floyd Ebeling Elementary School - Macomb, MI

17.       Morgan Elementary School - Shelby Township, MI

18.       Switzer Elementary School - Shelby Township, MI

19.       H. H. Wiley Elementary School - Utica, MI

20.       Commerce Elementary School - Commerce Township, MI

21.       Wilkerson Elementary School - Warren, MI

22.       Riverside Elementary School - Waterford, MI
