| Estelle Smyth, Escanaba
|
Estelle Smyth owns and operates Ideas Unlimited a marketing and public relations company based in Escanaba. Ideas Unlimited prepares public relations and marketing campaigns, develops videos and brochures, as well as creates and places advertising.
Smyth attended Lake Superior State University in Sault Ste. Marie and the New School in New York. She served as executive secretary/fundraiser for the Bonifas Art Center , in Escanaba, coordinating all public relations and fundraising events for that organization. Smyth served as Finance Director of the Michigan Democratic Party for four years coordinating major fundraising events. She managed various campaigns including, coordinating the Upper Peninsula for President Carter in 1980, a state representative race in 1984 and state senate race in 1986.
A member of the Escanaba Noon Kiwanis for the last twelve (1 2) years, Smyth has been chair of the annual Home and Garden Show, chair of the public relations committee and is currently chair of the Sponsored Youth Program. Smyth was recently elected to the Kiwanis Board of Directors and will serve as Second Vice-Chair for the coming year. She is a past member and past president of the advisory council for the Retired Seniors Volunteer Program in Escanaba (RSVP). She is a past member of the Board of Directors and Treasurer for the Alliance Against Violence and Abuse an organization that serves as a shelter and advocate to abused women and children. She is a past board member of the Delta County Business and Professional Women (BPW) an organization to promote women in the work place. From 1998 till 2003 Smyth was a member of the Escanaba Zoning Board of Appeals and served as chair until leaving that board. Currently, she serves as a member of the Liquor Control Board in Escanaba. In addition, this past year Smyth joined the Big Brothers/Big Sisters Organization as a mentor volunteer and just recently became a Big Sister.
Estelle Smyth is the mother of a grown son, Paul and has been married for the past 35 years to Kelvin Smyth.
