Rosa Eréndira Morales is a faculty member and Director of the Hispanics and Minorities in Journalism Programs at Michigan State University. She also coordinates the "Creating the Next Generation of Minority Journalists," a collaborative project with the Lansing School District 8th graders, the Lansing State Journal, journalism student mentors and the J-School. Next Gen, funded by the Gannett Foundation. At MSU she teaches print and broadcast news writing and is advisor for ALANA, student association, serving African American, Latino/a, Asian American, Native American and Arab American students in the College of Communication Arts and Sciences. This fall Morales plans to begin graduate study in Chicano Latinos Studies at MSU.
Her eclectic career includes over 25 years as print and broadcast journalist in California and Michigan, as well as corporate P.R. and community journalism. The Saginaw native worked briefly for the Michigan Community Development Cabinet. Morales also has conducted training sessions for radio and TV reporters in the U. S. and Ecuador.
The Emmy-award winning Morales is a founding member of the National Association of Hispanic Journalists (NAHJ). She is also is faculty leader for the annual Student Campus Project at the NAHJ's conventions. The first Hispanic to graduate from the MSU School of Journalism in 1971, Morales was named Outstanding Alumnus of the College of Communication Arts and Sciences in 1982.
