Patricia (Pat) M. Lowrie is the Director in the Women's Resource Center (WRC) at Michigan State University and Assistant to the Dean in the College of Veterinary Medicine. As WRC director, she leads a staff in developing and implementing educational, leadership, social justice and advocacy programs. The Center serves as a focus point for coordinating resources and referrals that catalyze institutional change through understanding and valuing difference and empower women and men faculty, students and staff to be effective change agents. In Veterinary Medicine, her role is to enhance and increase educational and professional opportunities for underrepresented groups in the health professions. In both roles, she develops and implements programs and strategies that facilitate organizational inclusiveness. She advises the university leadership on effective methods to engage various constituent groups in synergistic activity that move beyond anti-discrimination teachings and to infuse social justice education more comprehensively into the academy.

As part of a university diversity team, she shares collective responsibility for addressing the issues of individuals who are members of oppressed groups including persons with disabilities and persons who are victims to racism, sexism, classism, and homophobia. The Women's Resource Center is an access point for persons who believe they have experienced sexual harassment. In addition, she serves as consultant to agencies and community-based organizations on issues of diversity, cultural competency and equity. She holds membership on those MSU committees that advise the provost's office and other vice presidents on issues relative to inclusiveness and diversity.

Notable among her many organizational affiliations is that she is a Senior Fellow in the Office of Diversity Equity and Global Initiatives, Association of American Colleges and Universities, is chairperson of the steering committee for the a national initiative for women in higher education-Campus Women Lead, has served as president of the National Association of Medical Minority Educators, was chairperson of the Minority Affairs Committee of the Association of Veterinary Medical Colleges that included an unique opportunity to influence the national diversity activity among all veterinary schools, and serves as a trustee and Vice Chairperson of the Board of Ingham Regional Medical Center. Lowrie was recently appointed as a Councilor on the Council of Education for Public Health, the accrediting body for schools and programs of public health.

Pat is married to Dr. Charles T. Lowrie, is the mother of one son, Nnamdi, and a new grandmother of a granddaughter, Peyton Aubrey Lowrie.
