Be heard - be a voter.

The Michigan Women’s Commission is dedicated to improving the quality of life for women in the state. As November approaches, we are reminded that one way to secure the best quality of life for women is to vote. Voting determines our future and our families’ futures. Unfortunately, in the last presidential election, many women did not vote. According to U.S. Census Data, 22 million unmarried women failed to vote, comprising the largest group of nonvoters in the country.

This lack of response comes at a time when the need for women’s voices is clear. Pay equity, for instance, is still a major concern. According to the Institute for Women’s Policy Research, women earn 76 cents for every dollar men earn. Women struggle against rising healthcare costs for themselves and for their children. They maintain jobs while trying to attain a better education. The call to consider women’s issues is still present, but women must respond to that call by voting.

If we cannot afford inequity in pay, careers, education and family life, then we simply cannot afford to lose 22 million votes in this election. Encourage the women you know to vote by downloading and distributing the Michigan Women’s Commission voting cards. It’s one simple way you can strengthen women’s voices.
