• Barbara Gattorn Dies at 75 
We are saddened to announce the death of the Chair of the Michigan Women's Commission, Barbara Gattorn. Her vision for the Commission targeted areas that really could make a difference for Michigan women. She led the Commission to commit to three priorities: helping women starting in business, understanding human trafficking in Michigan, and reaching out to women veterans. Her leadership was key in making state policy makers understand the unique needs of our women veterans. Our thoughts are with her family at this sad time.

• Women in Selected Occupations 2011 
In 2011, women accounted for 47 percent of all employed persons 16 years of age and older. But, their participation in different occupations varied widely. For example, women made up 4.5% of firefighters, 18.7 % of chefs and head cooks, 31.9% of lawyers, and 81.6% of social workers.
