Public Safety and Environmental Health

There is more to health than preventing and curing disease. Apart from disease, we live our lives surrounded by forces that threaten our health and safety, and can dramatically change the state of our health and well-being.

Threats to the health of Michigan residents can come in all shapes and sizes, and from all directions. They can be natural or man-made, a tornado or a nuclear emergency. They can be as individual as an accidental injury, or as global as a chemical spill. We can encounter them suddenly and violently - a street crime in our neighborhood - or they can attack us stealthily and unseen - a chemical seeping into our water supply. They can jeopardize us through the air we breathe, the water we drink and the food we eat.

This site details the Michigan Department of Community Health's efforts to counter these threats to the health of Michigan residents. These agencies exist to make Michigan a safer place to live and grow.
