Roseville Nurse Has License Summarily Suspended

Contact:  James McCurtis Jr. (517) 241-2112
Agency: Community Health

September 21, 2009

The Michigan Department of Community Health (MDCH) has immediately suspended the license to practice as a registered nurse of Mark Stephen Fyn, R.N., C.R.N.A., based on his felony convictions in the 16th Judicial Circuit Court, Macomb County, Michigan. The MDCH Bureau of Health Professions orders a summary suspension when it believes that the public's health, safety, and welfare warrant emergency action.

On July 1, 2009, Fyn, 36, was convicted of two felony counts of child sexually abusive material-possession. As a result, Fyn was sentenced to jail for 60 days (with credit for one day) and placed on probation for a period of five years with specified terms. In addition, Fyn was ordered to pay costs, restitution and a fee totaling $1,796.00. These convictions were based on Fyn intentionally accessing a child pornography Web site on multiple occasions.

On Sept. 11, 2009, MDCH issued an order summarily suspending Fyn's nursing license pursuant to the Public Health Code, which provides for the summary suspension of a health professional's license when the department finds that the public health, safety or welfare requires emergency action. An administrative hearing will be scheduled to address the status of Fyn's registered nurse license.
