Garden City Pharmacy Loses License

Contact:  T.J. Bucholz (517) 241-2112
Agency: Community Health

January 20, 2005

The Michigan Department of Community Health (MDCH) has summarily suspended the pharmacy license of Tri-City Pharmacy Inc., Garden City, Michigan. The MDCH Bureau of Health Professions orders a summary suspension when it believes that the public’s health, safety, and welfare warrant emergency action.

The suspension was a result of an investigation conducted by MDCH, which revealed that Tri-City Pharmacy was dispensing controlled substances on fraudulent prescriptions and was dispensing multiple quantities of Robitussin cough syrup with codeine to individual patients in amounts exceeding the 120 cc’s allowed within a single 48-hour period.

On December 22, 2004, MDCH issued an order immediately suspending Tri-City Pharmacy’s license pursuant to the Public Health Code. An administrative hearing will be scheduled to address the status of Tri-City Pharmacy’s license.

For more information on disciplinary actions taken by the health professional licensing boards within MDCH, please go to http://www.michigan.gov/mdch, and click on Health Systems and Licensing.
