EMT-Specialist & Paramedic Practical Examination

In 2001, the State of Michigan began utilizing the National Registry of Emergency Medical Technicians (NREMTs) exam process to facilitate both the written and practical portions of the State Exam.  We have contracted with UPEMS to administer the NREMT advanced practical exam for EMT-Specialists and Paramedics in the Upper Peninsula (A temporary practical exam process has been established for those students in the Lower Peninsula until a contract can be established in January - see the "EMS News and Announcements" section on our homepage for more information).  Upon passing the NREMT Practical and Cognitive (CBT) Exams you will obtain NREMT certification and will be eligible to apply for licensure in the State of Michigan.  You cannot practice EMS in the State of Michigan without a license.

UPEMS can be contacted for more information on taking your NREMT Practical Exam in the Upper Peninsula, including:

  • Exam Process
  • Exam Schedule and Sites
  • Exam Objectives (Study Guides)
  • Exam Forms
  • NREMT Certification Information
