HAI Advisory Group
The Michigan Department of Community Health (MDCH), Surveillance for Healthcare-Associated and Resistant Pathogens (SHARP) Unit has convened a multi-disciplinary Advisory Group (referred to as the Michigan HAI Prevention Advisory Group) to establish statewide HAI prevention leadership. A list of HAI Prevention Advisory Group partner organizations and their Advisory Group representatives are provided below.
Michigan HAI Prevention Advisory Group Partner Organizations
Greater Detroit Chapter of the Association for Professionals in Infection Control & Epidemiology (APIC-GD)
An official local chapter of its international association, its mission is to improve health and patient safety by reducing the risks of infection and other adverse outcomes. Its members have primary responsibility for infection prevention and control and hospital epidemiology in the healthcare setting.
Michigan Antibiotic Resistance Reduction (MARR) Coalition
A Michigan-based initiative that is dedicated to preserving our antibiotic lifeline -- the ability to maintain the use of current antibiotics to treat bacterial infections. MARR brings together experts in the field for the purpose of developing educational materials for the professional community and general population. MARR has developed and implemented a consumer education program on the appropriate use of antibiotics and hand-washing through "Antibiotics and You", a program initiated in Michigan that has been expanded to other states. Additional achievements include coordinating the development of a Long-Term Care Toolkit using CDC's 12 Steps to Prevent Antimicrobial Resistance among Long-Term Care Residents in 2008 and, during 2009 and 2010, providing a web-based training on upper respiratory infections, targeted at antibiotic prescribers.
