Compact Computed Tomography (CT) Machines

Advisory Notice: Updated July 7, 2008, the Department of Community Health, in coordination with the Certificate of Need (CON) Commission, has determined that the following new technology/scanners are covered by the CON Standards for Computed Tomography (CT) Services and, therefore, is a covered clinical service for the purposes of Part 222 of the Public Health Code. In accordance with MCL 333.22209(1), a Certificate of Need must first be obtained prior to offering services on the following scanners: Imaging Sciences i-CAT, Xoran Technologies MiniCAT, Aperio NewTom, Hitachi Mercuray, Morita 3D Accuitomo, ILUMA Ultra Cone Beam CT Scanner, Kodak 9000 3D, Planmeca Promax 3D unit/upgrades, and other similar devices.

The Radiation Safety Section will not register these devices until CON approval is obtained. See Planning or Starting Up a New X-ray Facility for more information on registration, including requirements for radiation shielding plan reviews.
