The Bureau of Health Professions regulates over 340,000 health professionals in Michigan who are licensed, registered, or certified under Articles 7, 15 and 17 of the Michigan Public Health Code and 42 Code of Federal Regulation (CFR) Part 483.
This regulation consists of licensing/registering 32 health care occupations, including pharmacies and manufacturer/wholesale distributors. Additionally, the Bureau receives and investigates allegations against these professionals. Regulatory discipline is usually a function of a licensing board or task force which is composed of both professional and public members appointed by the Governor.
The Bureau also provides support to the Controlled Substances Advisory Commission, the Health Professional Recovery Program, and the Advisory Committee on Pain and Symptom Management.
