When you attend a seminar or conference, you will be given a certificate of attendance, and you will need to store these in a safe place. The certificate should include information such as the sponsor's name, your name, the date of the course you attended, how many contact hours you earned, and who accredited the course for social work continuing education credit.
Please do not mail these certificates to us -- we do not have the ability to store them. It is the individual licensee's responsibility to retain these certificates for their own records. When it is time for you to renew, your renewal form will ask if you have completed the required continuing education. As long as this is a true statement, then you would select "yes" as your response. You do not need to send in the certificates with your renewal.
In late summer, a sample of those who renewed is selected for an audit. Should you be randomly selected to participate, we would contact you and ask for proof of your continuing education, and you would submit your certificates at that time for our review.
If you have met the continuing education requirements, we will send you a letter thanking you. If you have not met the continuing education requirements, we will contact you to see if you have any additional information. If you are unable to document the completion of the continuing education requirement, we will have to notify our Health Regulatory Division of your non-compliance with the renewal requirement. They will then issue a complaint. Additional information regarding that process will be contained in the complaint document.
