Who needs continuing education?

All LBSWs and LMSWs are required to complete continuing education. Anyone that currently holds a 3-year license (licensure cycle is from May 1, 2006 - April 30, 2009) must earn continuing education (CE) credits before renewing their licenses in 2009.

If your current license does not expire until April 30, 2007, then you do not need any CE at this time, and you will be able to renew your license in the same manner as previous years. Once you renew, you will be required to earn CE from May 1, 2007 through April 30, 2010. If you take continuing education courses prior to having the 3-year license (before May 1, 2007), then the CE will not be applicable because it will have been earned outside the licensure cycle.
