Principles

I. Maintenance of Standards of Excellence

The staff of the Michigan Career and Technical Institute have as their primary goal and principle the maintenance of MCTI as an excellent vocational rehabilitation training center.

II. All programs are market driven by the needs of Michigan's businesses and citizens.

Decisions made at MCTI are based on sound business reasons. MCTI makes a constant effort to seek out reliable and valid information on the needs of the markets we serve. Customer satisfaction is critical for the success of any service organization. The following standards guide MCTI's market-driven program:

• All curriculum areas are guided by recommendations of the Business Advisory Committees (BACs).
• Students take an active role in their own rehabilitation programs.
• The MCTI staff are active members of the state and national rehabilitation community and, as such, provide vocational rehabilitation leadership.
• All referral sources, especially Michigan Rehabilitation Services, are continually surveyed and monitored for open and updated input and communication.
• The business community is monitored and surveyed for their employee needs and our ability to meet those needs.
  
  

III. Advocate for and Empower Persons with Disabilities.

As a leader in the rehabilitation community, MCTI and its staff have the right and responsibility to promote the integration of persons with disabilities into both the competitive workplace and the society in which they live. Empowerment enables one to learn and take responsibility for one's own choices and have a sense of control over the outcomes of one's life. Advocacy and empowerment are promoted by MCTI in the following ways:

• Students are provided opportunities to be literate and possess the knowledge and skills necessary to compete in a global economy.
• Students are provided with opportunities to self-govern and participate in decisions that impact upon them.
• In keeping with the spirit of the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA), the MCTI staff will advocate to both the general public and to employers on the benefits of the financial and social involvement of persons with disabilities.
