Training on Food Code and Food Law
The Michigan Department of Agriculture & Rural Development, Food and Dairy Division schedules a Food Law/Food Code training course on an 'as-needed' basis or in January of each year.
The purpose of the training course is to present the Michigan Food Law and Michigan Modified Food Code to local health department sanitarian food inspectors and MDARD food inspectors.
Maximum class size is 35 attendees. Sanitarians new to food service inspections and new MDARD food staff who have not previously attended this training course are encouraged to attend and will be given first priority. This is a great opportunity to refresh and refine your knowledge of food inspections.
Prior to attending class, students should complete the following:
- MDARD Training Program for the Professional Food Service Sanitarian, particularly Modules 1 and 4 or the FDA's Office of Regulatory Affairs (ORA) University Food Program Training Curriculum Courses;
- Attend a Food Service Manager Certification course;
- Twenty-five inspections with their regional standardized trainer.
Upon completion of the course, students will have an understanding of Michigan's Food Law and the Michigan Modified FDA Food Code. A variety of materials including a copy of the Food Code and Food Law will be provided.
