Chair Don Koivisto called the special meeting to order at 1:00 p.m. Roll call was taken; a quorum was present. The Chair stated that this special meeting is specifically for the consideration of providing a $5,000 grant to the International Riesling Foundation for promotion and research support for the wine industry; and for the council to provide match funds up to $50,000 for Specialty Crop Block Grants for the industry.
INTERNATIONAL RIESLING FOUNDATION
Prior to the meeting, Linda Jones emailed all the council members the proposal she received from the International Riesling Foundation, explaining what a $5,000 grant would do for the wine industry (Attachment A).
MOTION: BOB JACOBSON MOVED THAT THE COUNCIL PROVIDE A $5,000 GRANT TO THE INTERNATIONAL RIESLING FOUNDATION FOR PROMOTION AND RESEARCH SUPPORT TO THE MICHIGAN WINE INDUSTRY. HEATHER PRICE SECONDED THE MOTION. MOTION CARRIED UNANIMOUSLY.
SPECIALTY CROP BLOCK GRANT
Prior to the meeting, Linda Jones emailed all council members the potential proposals for the Specialty Crop Block Grants that are being submitted by different wine industry organizations (Attachment B). Those asking for more than $20,000 can get additional scoring points if they contribute match dollars.
MOTION: BOB JACOBSON MOVED THAT THE COUNCIL PROVIDE UP TO $50,000 IN MATCH FUNDS FROM THE FISCAL YEAR 2010 BUDGET FOR SPECIALTY CROP BLOCK GRANT APPLICATIONS FOR PROJECTS THAT ARE CONSISTENT WITH THE COUNCIL'S STRATEGIC PLAN. STEVE ARBAUGH SECONDED. MOTION CARRIED UNANIMOUSLY.
