Michigan Noxious Weed Seed-Free Forage and Mulch Certification Program

To address the growing demand for the use of certified weed free forage (hay, cubes and pellets) and mulch (straw), the Michigan Crop Improvement Association (MCIA) is managing the Michigan Noxious Weed Seed-Free Forage and Mulch Certification Program. This is a voluntary preventative program used in integrated weed management systems to limit the spread of noxious weeds. It follows standards established by the North American Weed Management Association (NAWMA). The goal of this standard is to provide a guideline to set minimum requirements for uniform participation of the various states and provinces in the program. Buyers are provided assurance that forage and mulch certified through this program meets these minimum standards.
