The Governor's Service Awards, one of Michigan's most prestigious volunteer recognition events, are presented annually to celebrate Michigan's volunteers. Hosted by Governor Jennifer M. Granholm, the event includes a private reception for award finalists and sponsors followed by an awards presentation open to the general public. The 2008 event, An Evening With the Stars, was held on Thursday, June 19, 2008 at the Fox Theatre in Detroit and featured American Idol season-six standout contestant, LaKisha Jones.
The Governor's Service Awards provide excellent opportunities for corporate sponsors to demonstrate their commitment to volunteers and local communities. Each year, the event directly touches more than 5,000 individuals and organizations through the nomination, peer review, reception, and awards presentation. The event's exposure is increased even more through statewide press releases promoting the event.
