The Michigan Community Service Commission (MCSC) is proud to support the Michigan's Volunteer Investment Grants (VIG). These state funded grants help support the volunteer infrastructure in Michigan by strengthening state and local volunteer clearinghouses.
Michigan's VIG program was founded on the idea that volunteers provide a vital problem-solving resource to communities. According to a study by the Institute for Public Policy and Social Research, ninety percent (90%) of Michigan's nonprofit agencies depend on volunteers to make services available, making them an essential part of the nonprofit community. Unfortunately, many communities struggle to sustain the essential infrastructure necessary to support volunteerism. Michigan's VIG is designed to: empower communities with an ongoing source of funds to create or increase the self-sufficiency of a local volunteer resource center; build the center's capacity; and increase the number of citizen volunteers involved in community problem-solving. "In the first six years, ninety-seven grants were issues leveraging more than $5 million in local cash match."
