Michigan's Campaign to End Homelessness AmeriCorps program now has nearly 60 members statewide. Members fill a critical gap in services at agencies working with homeless populations. Acting as Housing and Services Liaisons, they perform outreach activities and assist individuals experiencing homelessness or those at-risk of homelessness to assess barriers to housing, develop strategic plans, and identify housing opportunities. Campaign members are active in their communities, working with landlords to develop lists of low-income or subsidized housing opportunities; linking consumers to mainstream benefits and assisting them in applying for said benefits; conducting follow-up visits with housed clients to ensure housing stability; and a variety of other activities. With the assistance of the Campaign's Volunteer Coordinators, members also create volunteer opportunities at their sites and strive to maintain and motivate volunteers across the state to work to end homelessness. Finally, the Campaign also includes five one-time Foreclosure Prevention members who work at Homeownership Counseling Agencies, helping keep Michigan residents housed.
