The events of September 11th affected each of us differently and, quite understandably, each of us will heal in different ways. Some find security in spending quality time with family. Others find solace in their faith. For many, comfort is found in giving back. Volunteering to help others in need. Volunteering to help strengthen our communities.
To support the need many of us have to give back, President Bush signed the Unity in the Spirit of America (USA) Act. This act calls upon the Points of Light Foundation to organize at least 5,000 volunteer service projects across the United States, each in tribute to the victims of the September attacks.
“The USA Act gives all Americans who shared in the horror of the September 11th attacks a chance to share in the healing. We can never let the memory of that tragic day fade from our national consciousness. While the victims of the terrorist attacks will never be forgotten, the thousands of projects that will be created by this effort will ensure that their memories live on in communities across the country.” - Senator Debbie Stabenow (D-MI), USA Act co-sponsor
