The Commission currently administers a comprehensive licensing exam following the completion of the mandated basic training curriculum. In response to requests for the certification exam performance rates per basic training site, the Commission approved the publication of these figures.

Since academy class sizes vary widely, the results are presented in raw numbers rather than percentages. The report is published every six months, set to coincide with the completion dates for most academies or pre-service track program semesters. Because students failing the licensing exam are allowed one opportunity to retest, figures for both the initial attempt and overall pass/fail following retests are presented.
In reviewing the performance for students and academies, consideration must be given to the fact that the licensing exam is a final check on the students' knowledge following all other written and skill exams within the academy. Those not meeting required performance measures within the academy would have been removed prior to reaching the licensing exam.
Since the licensing exam is only one part of the total training process, the pass rates should not be used as the sole measure to rate academy performance or to make program adjustments.
