The cost of gas has been on the rise. Do you think more people should buy alternative fuel vehicles? The state Energy Office and U.S. Department of Energy often offer grants to encourage colleges and universities to research alternative energy options. Researchers have even investigated the use of used restaurant fryer oils to convert into fuels. Do you think more should be done to encourage research? Would you be interested in studying alternative fuels?

Have you ever taken an online or virtual class? The State of Michigan has a Michigan Virtual University for K-12 education and many Michigan colleges and universities offer online classes. Do you think this makes education more accessible for you? Do you enjoy taking classes like this?

I saw an article on the CNN Money website (http://money.cnn.com/2004/10/18/pf/college/college_costs/) that says average tuition four-year public universities is $11,354 for attendance, including room, board and fees. It's a little shocking! But the good news is they report a college graduate is likely to earn about 73 percent more than a high school graduate. Is your family saving for college for you? Or is your family already paying for college costs? The manufacturing website has links for scholarships you can apply for to help defray some of these costs.

What career options are you considering? Do your parents support your choices? Or do they encourage you to explore other career options? What do some of your friends want to do in the real world?

Many car manufacturers have been offering employee discounts (GM, Chrysler, Ford) and sales have soared. Have the sales promotions impacted your family? Did you think they were a good idea to help boost car sales? What advice would you give the companies to help sell cars in the future?
