Lt. Governor John Cherry (seated on right) recently went on a turkey hunt sponsored by the National Wild Turkey Federation with 16 year-old Catherine Ellis of Hudson (standing in center). The hunt was a mentoring opportunity to help a young person learn to appreciate hunting and outdoor recreation. However, Ellis is a turkey hunting veteran who has bagged seven wild turkeys herself. In a way, she mentored the Lt. Governor, who bagged his first bird – this 20 pound one – during the hunt.
Lt. Governor John Cherry, Catherine Ellis, Al Stewart, Upland Game Bird Specialist-Michigan Department of Natural Resources, and Steve Sharp, Regional Director of the National Wild Turkey Federation, pose with a turkey shot during a recent NWTF youth turkey hunt.
