LANSING, April 10, 2008 -For the third year in a
row, the Michigan Lottery has received a Certificate of Achievement for
Excellence in Financial Reporting from the Government Finance Officers
Association of the United States and Canada for its 2007 comprehensive annual
financial report (CAFR).
"The CAFR is a vital publication to the
disclosure of the Lottery's financial information. We are proud to be honored
for such an important document. This award demonstrates the Lottery's commitment
to integrity and accountability." Lottery Commissioner M. Scott Bowen said.
The Lottery's CAFR was judged by an impartial
panel as demonstrating "a spirit of full disclosure" to clearly communicate the
Lottery's financial story, as well as to motivate potential users and user
groups to read the CAFR.
The 2007 CAFR, as well as the Lottery's fiscal
year 2007 annual report, are available on the Lottery's Web site at
www.michigan.gov/lottery.
Over 95 cents of every dollar spent on Lottery
tickets is returned to the state in the form of contributions to the state
School Aid Fund, prizes to players and commissions to retailers. In fiscal year
2007, the contribution to schools was $748.9 million. Since its inception in
1972, the Lottery has contributed more than $14.3 billion to education in
Michigan.
