MichiCard General Guidelines
As a participating MichiCard library, the following guidelines are important to the success of the statewide resource sharing program.
Guideline 1 - When filing a MichiCard Claim Form for lost materials, list the borrower's library -- not the borrower's name. Under the Michigan Library Privacy Act, a lending library may not disclose information that links a person to a loaned item.
Please note that as of October 1, 2010 reimbursements for lost materials will no longer be available due to Library of Michigan budget cuts.
Guideline 2 - MichiCard libraries agree to return materials to other lending MichiCard libraries. When returning materials, it would be helpful to the lending library if the returning library included a date received slip in the materials. Postage costs will be reimbursed up to October 1, 2010.
After October 1, 2010 reimbursements for postage will no longer be available due to Library of Michigan budget cuts.
Guideline 3 - When registering a person who has a MichiCard borrower's card, or a local library card with a MichiCard sticker, the person's home address must be recorded in case the participating lending library needs to send an overdue notice.
