MeLCat Advisory Committee

Purpose: To advise the State Librarian on policies for the statewide catalog and resource-sharing system. Specific areas of focus include:

• Database standards
• MeLCat system evaluation
• Borrowing and lending policies and best practices

Membership: Members are appointed after a nomination process for two-year staggered terms. There are 14 members, representing a variety of types of libraries and library automation from across the state. MeLCat staff will be ex officio members. One or more MeLCat staff may attend meetings to answer questions and provide background information on specific issues.

Membership will be comprised of people with a wide range of expertise in such areas as interlibrary loan, cataloging, circulation, shared cataloging creation and management, and resource sharing in individual as well as shared library systems.

Bringing together staff with such a wide range of backgrounds will promote an integrated approach to policy design and problem solving. When necessary, subcommittees and task forces will be created to address specific issues.

Meeting Frequency: Quarterly or as needed.
