The Bureau of Services for Blind Persons Training Center
In operation since 1969, the BSBP Training Center (BSBPTC) is the only comprehensive rehabilitation training center in Michigan specializing in assisting youth and adults who are blind or low vision.
The BSBP Training Center is open all year and can accommodate up to 29 participants in 27 private rooms and two training apartments. A length of stay can vary from a few weeks to several months, depending upon individual needs and goals.
Vocational Rehabilitation Professionals at the BSBP Training Center work collaboratively to provide individualized training and employment services to assist participants and businesses address challenges that may pose barriers to achieving their goals and objectives.
Work-based learning experiences, vocational training, and hands-on learning opportunities are provided when appropriate. A participant’s skill level will be assessed, and instruction will be provided in adaptive low vision and non-visual techniques from professional staff in various skill areas.
A family program is available for family members who are interested in learning about classes and training their loved one is enrolled in. The family program provides helpful information, tips, adaptations, and other techniques that will help support participants as they depart the program and return home.
