Barrier Free Design Board Responsibilities and Meeting Schedule

The Barrier Free Design Board was created by Act 190 of 1974, amending 1966 PA 1 . The board has the responsibility to receive, review, and process requests for exceptions to the barrier free design specifications; require appropriate equivalent alternatives when exceptions are granted; receive, process, and make recommendations for barrier free design rules.

The 9 members of the board are appointed by the governor, with the advice and consent of the senate, to serve 3-years terms. Upon expiration of a term, a member may continue to serve until a successor is appointed.
