MLCC Announces Changes in Licensing Fee Collections

Contact: Andrea Miller (517) 322-5898

Agency: Licensing and Regulatory Affairs

December 19, 2011 – The Michigan Liquor Control Commission (MLCC) announced that, due to the very explicit and clear language in the law, all license base fees are due to the MLCC before the Commission considers any liquor license application. According to the Michigan Liquor Control Code, specifically in MCL 436.1525(1), payment of the license fee is due at the time of the filing of the intial application. No further action will be taken on the request until the base fee is paid.

"We are following the Statute the way it was written," said MLCC Chairman Andy Deloney. "The Legislature wrote these laws and we intend to follow the laws. By doing so, we help provide a clear and predictable process for applicants and the public in general, so they know what is expected."
