Contact: Maura Campbell (517) 373-9280

Agency: Licensing and Regulatory Affairs

April 21, 2004

The Department of Labor & Economic Growth today announced the award of an additional $673,620 in Food Assistance Employment and Training grants to 24 Michigan Works! Agencies.  The funding will be used to connect adults ages 18-59 without dependents and able to work to employment, so they can retain their food stamp eligibility and eventually become independent.

The Food Assistance Employment and Training Program is administered by 24 locally governed Michigan Works! Agencies and Workforce Development Boards statewide.

The Department of Labor & Economic Growth is the state government agency charged with providing the skilled workforce Michigan needs to enhance and maintain its economy.  To this end, the Food Assistance Employment and Training Program is one component of the state's efforts to address this need.  For more information about the Department of Labor & Economic Growth, visit the department's web site at www.michigan.gov/dleg.
