Michigan Department of Consumer & Industry Services Presents Gilreath Manufacturing Safety and Health Award

JUNE 25, 2003 - The Michigan Department of Consumer & Industry Services (CIS) presented Gilreath Manufacturing, Inc., today with the Consultation Education and Training Bronze Award for an outstanding safety and health record.

The Consultation Education and Training (CET) Division of the CIS Bureau of Safety and Regulation recognizes the safety and health achievements of Michigan employers and employees through CET Awards, which are based on excellent safety and health performance.  The CET Bronze Award recognizes leadership and commitment to workplace safety and health resulting in significant improvement of their Michigan Occupational Safety and Health Act (MIOSHA) record.

BSR Director Doug Kalinowski presented the award to Leonard Petty, Safety Officer; Kelley Krumm, Human Resource Manager; and members of the Safety Committee.  Refreshments will be served to employees on all three shifts to congratulate them on their safety and health accomplishments.

"A safety program is only as strong as the commitment behind it and I am very pleased to say that our employees are the strength behind the success of our program," said Krumm. "This award is a significant way of highlighting everyone's commitment to ‘safety first.'"

Gilreath Manufacturing, Inc., through the strong commitment of management and employees, has concentrated their improvement efforts in: ergonomics on the job, improved accident investigations, increased training, and audits to ensure a safe work environment.  Gilreath's insurance carrier, Amerisure Insurance Company, assists with walkthroughs and audits throughout the plant, which helps to create an environment of continuous safety improvement.  Gilreath also received an award today from Amerisure for "Most Ergonomic Improvements to a Work Station."

Gilreath Manufacturing has completed the following criteria to receive the Bronze Award:

  • Developed and implemented written safety and health policies and procedures;
  • Established a safety and health committee;
  • Appointed a safety and health designee;
  • Reduced their injury and illness rate by 50 percent or more in the last three years.
