Unemployment Insurance Agency Invites Employers to Attend Seminars Free Seminars being held through mid-October across the state

Contact: Chawn Greene-Farmer (517) 373-9280

Agency: Licensing and Regulatory Affairs

April 11, 2012 - Employers from across the state will have an opportunity to learn more about the unemployment insurance system and recent legislative changes made to the Michigan Employment Security Act.

The statewide seminars will begin in Detroit in mid-April and conclude in Escanaba in mid-October. The seminars are conducted by Unemployment Insurance Agency (UIA) staff and cover such topics as UI legislative updates, working part time and collecting unemployment, UI tax and benefit fraud, suitable work and refusal of work, new UIA online services, how an employer's tax rates are calculated and seasonal designation changes.

Each seminar begins promptly at 8 a.m. and concludes at 5 p.m. with a one hour lunch break. The agency will not be providing lunch.

Employers can register to attend a seminar online by visiting the UIA website: www.michigan.gov/uia, selecting the Employer Tab and scrolling down to the 2012 Employer Seminar link. Employers can select the seminar they wish to attend and choose the Register tab. Due to high demand, several seminars are full; however, employers have the opportunity to register for a different seminar or to be placed on a waitlist.

For questions about the seminar, please call the Office of the Employer Ombudsman at 855-484-2636 (4-UIAOEO), 313-456-2300, or email OEO@michigan.gov.

The meeting sites and parking are accessible. People with disabilities who require additional accommodations (such as materials in alternative formats) in order to participate in the meeting should contact the Office of the Employer Ombudsman at least three business days prior to their scheduled meeting.

These seminars are offered in partnership with the Michigan Economic Development Corporation's Pure Michigan Business Connect and the Workforce Development Agency. The 2012 Employer Seminar Schedule and corresponding registration links are also listed below.
