LARA's Corporation Division Announces 2012 Nonprofit Seminars Leaders Invited to Attend Informative Forums

February 6, 2012 - New nonprofit organization officers, directors and members are invited to register for one of the informative Department of Licensing and Regulatory Affairs (LARA) Corporation Division seminars in Lansing. The seminars cover a wide variety of topics including director and officers duties and responsibilities, indemnification, charitable solicitations, financing, tax issues, filing requirements, and recordkeeping.

The seminars will be offered from March through October at the LARA Bureau of Commercial Services Corporation Division office in Okemos, located at 2501 Woodlake Circle, Okemos MI., from 12:30 p.m. to 4:30 p.m. The 2012 seminar dates are: March 29, April 26, June 26, July 26, September 27, and October 25.

Presenters for the seminars are from LARA, the Consumer Protection and Charitable Trust Division of the Michigan Office of Attorney General, Internal Revenue Service (IRS), and the Michigan Department of Treasury. Printed materials provided at the seminar include a resource notebook, LARA brochures, and IRS booklets and forms.

There is a non-refundable fee of $50.00 per person for attending the seminar, due within five days of registration. Class sizes are limited; interested parties are encouraged to submit their registration at least two weeks prior to the seminar. Checks are to be made payable to the State of Michigan and can be mailed along with a copy of the registration form to: LARA, Corporation Division, P.O. Box 30054, Lansing, MI., 48909, within five days of submitting the request.

If you do not receive an email or phone call within 6 - 8 business days (or if you need to cancel your reservations or have any questions), contact Andrea Strach at stracha@michigan.gov or (517) 241-6455.

The meeting site and parking are accessible. Individuals attending the meeting are requested to refrain from using heavily scented personal care products in order to enhance accessibility for everyone.
