The company on Oct. 31 filed a tariff with the MPSC proposing to implement a rate increase for ferry service between Harsens Island and Algonac, effective Jan. 1, 2012, as follows: the discounted commuter rate would increase by $1 per round-trip; the single round trip fare for automobiles would increase from $7 to $8; the fare for single axle trailers would increase from $5 to $6 per round trip, with the rate for each additional axle also increasing by $1; the rate for multiple axle vehicles would increase from $15 to $16, with the rate for each additional axle increasing by $1; the rate for gas trucks will remain at $25 per round trip; the rate for motorcycles will increase from $3 to $4 per round trip; the school bus rate will increase from $5 to $6; and the rate for dual wheel pick-ups would increase from $7 to $8 per round trip.
The MPSC will hold an evidentiary hearing on the proposed rate increase at 9 a.m. on Nov. 28, in Constitution Hall in Lansing. The evidentiary hearing will allow the MPSC to investigate whether the company's proposed rate increase is justified.
The MPSC is an agency within the Department of Licensing and Regulatory Affairs.
