MPSC Approves Four Settlement Agreements for Four Michigan Utilities' Energy Optimization Plans and Surcharges

The Michigan Public Service Commission (MPSC) today approved four settlement agreements for four Michigan utilities' energy optimization (EO) plans and surcharges.

In Case No. U-16669, under the terms of the settlement, Alpena Power Company's EO plan is approved.  As a result, residential customers using 500 kilowatt-hours of electricity a month will see an EO surcharge increase of 43 cents on their monthly bill, beginning in January 2012.  The utility and the MPSC staff participated in the settlement.

In Case No.  U-16674, under the terms of the settlement, Northern States Power Company's EO plan for electric and natural gas is approved.  As a result, residential customers using 500 kilowatt-hours of electricity a month will see an EO surcharge increase of 20 cents on their monthly bill, beginning in January 2012.  Residential customers using 100 therms of natural gas a month will see an increase of 37 cents on their monthly bill, beginning in January 2012.  The utility and the MPSC staff participated in the settlement.

In Case No. U-16675, under the terms of the settlement, Upper Peninsula Power Company's EO plan is approved.  As a result, Iron River District and Interconnected System residential customers using 500 kilowatt-hours of electricity a month will see an EO surcharge increase of 75 cents on their monthly bill, beginning in January 2012.  The utility and the MPSC staff participated in the settlement.

In Case No. U-16677, under the terms of the settlement, Wisconsin Electric Power Company's EO plan is approved.  As a result, residential customers using 500 kilowatt-hours of electricity a month will see an EO surcharge increase of 69 cents on their monthly bill, beginning in January 2012.  The utility and the MPSC staff participated in the settlement.

The MPSC is an agency within the Department of Licensing and Regulatory Affairs.
