Aleris International's Saginaw plant will receive the
Michigan SHARP Award, for an exemplary safety and health management system, from the Michigan Occupational Safety and Health Administration (MIOSHA), at a special ceremony and luncheon
Thursday, July 12, 2007, at 11:00 a.m., 2600 Nodular Dr., in Saginaw. This is the third Aleris facility in Michigan to receive the SHARP Award.
Acceptance into the Michigan Safety and Health Achievement Recognition Program (SHARP) is confirmation that a company has achieved safety and health excellence far beyond their peers. This will be the tenth SHARP Award presented in Michigan. The MIOSHA program is part of the Michigan Department of Labor & Economic Growth (DLEG).
DLEG Director Keith W. Cooley, and MIOSHA Director Doug Kalinowski will present the SHARP Award to the Rick Hensley, Quality, Safety and Environmental Manager; and Brian Wright, Chair, UAW Local 455. Many employees are represented by United Autoworkers Union (UAW), Local 455. The Buena Vista and Bridgeport Fire Departments will also participate in the ceremony. Employees and guests will attend the presentation and luncheon.
Aleris International, Inc. is one of the world's largest recyclers of aluminum and zinc and one of the leading U.S. manufacturers of aluminum sheet. The Saginaw plant employs 34 workers and is an aluminum recycling facility.
