Governor Granholm and Michigan Department of Labor & Economic Growth Announce Additional $3.8 Million in Fiscal Year 2005 Reed Act AllocationsContact: Maura Campbell (517) 373-9280 Agency: Licensing and Regulatory Affairs
August 29, 2005 - The Michigan Department of Labor & Economic Growth announced today that additional Fiscal Year 2005 Reed Act funds totaling $3,844,261 have been allocated to help unemployed citizens find jobs.Michigan Works! Agencies (MWAs) will receive these funds for the Work First Program. Distribution of funds is based on a set formula, which ensures that each of the 25 MWAs across the state receives appropriate funding to serve and place Work First participants into employment.
The goal of the Work First Program is to assist Michigan's low-income citizens in obtaining employment or higher paying employment, therefore reducing or eliminating the need for public assistance.
"These funds will help get Michiganians and Michigan back to work," said Governor Jennifer M. Granholm.
Funding for Work First is provided by the State of Michigan and the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services and is administered by the Michigan Department of Labor & Economic Growth, Bureau of Workforce Programs.
A table is attached with the specific funding amounts for each Michigan Works! Agency. To view an interactive map of the state's Michigan Works! regions and the counties included in each region, go to http://www.michiganworks.org/page.cfm/14.
The Michigan Department of Labor & Economic Growth is investing in Michigan's future by helping to create the jobs of today and tomorrow, ensuring that our children and adults have the skills these jobs demand, making Michigan a better place to do business, and training and placing those who need jobs now.
