Michigan's Unemployment Insurance Agency Expands with Full Service at 14 Locations across State

Contact:  Chawn Greene-Farmer (517) 373-9280
Agency: Licensing and Regulatory Affairs

JUNE 7, 2012 - In an effort to provide an increased level of service and convenience to its customers, Michigan's Unemployment Insurance Agency is staffing six additional locations in various counties across Michigan, expanding its network of Problem Resolution Offices (PRO) to 14.  The offices, which opened earlier this week, are co-located with existing local agency offices in Alpena, Benton Harbor, Houghton, Kalamazoo, Sault Ste. Marie and Traverse City.

The six additional co-locations allow the Agency an opportunity to not only increase the level of service it provides to claimants who visit the office, but also to obtain valuable resource information and services from other state agencies including Michigan Works! and Department of Human Services (DHS).

"Being able to expand our presence into additional areas across the state will make it easier to serve customers who may prefer to seek unemployment assistance in person, said UIA Director Steve Arwood.  "Placing staff in existing local office locations will provide more convenience for customers in need of multiple services."

PRO staff at these locations will provide full service to customers, including in-person assistance for all aspects of unemployment.  All PRO locations are open to the public from Monday through Friday, except on state-recognized holidays.  Specific details including hours of operation and locations are listed below.

In addition to meeting with UIA's Customer Service Representatives at a PRO, customers may contact the Agency by calling the UIA Customer Service Line at 1-866-500-0017 (TTY users call 1-866-366-0004), or by emailing our Virtual Problem Resolution Agents  through their online claim web account at http://www.michigan.gov/uia and selecting "UIA Online Services for Unemployed Workers."
