At the Michigan Library and Historical Center

Students in the Michigan Historical Museum's BIG History Lesson learn in the museum's one-room school.

You might come with your class on a field trip to visit Michigan's State Capitol and the Michigan Historical Museum. Lots of kids do-around 400 every weekday and more on special tour days in spring! At the museum, you can tour the First People to 1900 exhibits, the Michigan in the Twentieth Century exhibits and the current Special Exhibit.

Other classes come to the museum for special visits, like the weeklong BIG History Lesson. In the photo, students in the Michigan Historical Museum's BIG History Lesson are doing a lesson in the museum's one-room school.

Special programs like the BIG History Lesson are called History Excursions. You can find out more about special programs here.

The Michigan Historical Museum also offers Summer Sizzles day camp in - you guessed it! - summer. A parent or guardian can register you for those programs.

If you are a resident of Michigan, you can have a free library card so you can check out books at the Library of Michigan. Your parent or guardian, also a resident of Michigan, must sign when you apply for your card if you are under the age of 18. You can find out more about checking out Library of Michigan materials. The Library of Michigan and the Archives of Michigan are great places to start your research for a National History Day competition project!

Whether you come to visit us with your class, your family or friends, we're looking forward to your visit! There are links with information about how to find us, where to park and our hours on the Michigan Historical Center home page.
