Christine C. White was appointed by Governor Granholm as the Racing Commissioner for the state of Michigan in January 2005. The Racing Commissioner position in Michigan serves as the Commissioner as well as in the capacity of the Executive Director. Her love of horses and agriculture began at an early age while growing up on a Saginaw County farm. Farming and horses remain a big part of the Commissioner's personal life. The Commissioner and her husband, Gary, own a small farm with several horses in mid-Michigan.
Commissioner White is a member of the Michigan Farmers Union and has served on the boards of the Midwest Dressage Association and Michigan Horse Breeders Association, and has been a member of the Michigan Quarter Horse Association.
Prior to taking on her duties as Racing Commissioner, Commissioner White served as the Assistant Deputy Administrator for Farm Programs in USDA's Farm Service Agency, Washington, D.C. She has held the position of State Executive Director of the Michigan USDA Farm Service Agency Office, and as District Director for FSA. She also held the position of the Administrative Officer for USDA's Veterinary Services Division under the Animal and Plant Health Inspection Service.
